PROJECT RAGNAROK ONLINE - SETUP FIX
projectragnarokonline.com

WHAT THIS IS

On a PC that has never run Ragnarok Online before, the game cannot open.
You get a blank white window titled "Project Ragnarok Online | Gepard
Shield" that looks stuck at the splash, and beside or behind it a small
    box that says:

Cannot init d3d OR grf file has problem.

This is not your PC, not your download and not the anti-cheat. The game
reads your graphics card's details from a Windows registry key that only
its own setup tool writes, and on a fresh PC that key is empty. Setup.exe
is that tool. This zip supplies it and the three runtime files it needs.

HOW TO FIX IT

    1. Extract all five files in this zip into your ProjectRagnarokOnline
folder, beside Ragnarok.exe. If Windows asks, choose to replace.

    2. Right-click Setup.exe and choose "Run as administrator".

    3. Check that the Graphic Setting box names your real graphics card and
that Screen Size has a resolution in it. Neither may be blank.
On a laptop, leave "Full Screen Mode" unticked.

    4. Press OK. This is the step that writes the key. Pressing Cancel, or
closing the window with the X, writes nothing and the game will fail
       again.

    5. Start the game with Ragnarok.exe, not Ragexe.exe. Ragnarok.exe is the
launcher: it patches the game and checks this setup for you. Starting
Ragexe.exe directly skips that check, which is how most people end up
       reading this file.

IF IT STILL WILL NOT START

That error message covers two different problems, and the second one is a
damaged download. Open your game folder and check these sizes. Right-click
a file, choose Properties, and read the size in bytes:

        data.grf 3,030,703,762 bytes
        Ragexe.exe 12,897,280 bytes
        gepard.dll 28,952,568 bytes

Anything smaller means the download or the extraction did not finish, or
your antivirus removed part of it. Check Windows Security, under Virus and
threat protection, then Protection history: if our files are listed there,
choose "Allow on device". Then add your game folder as an exclusion BEFORE
you extract the download again, or the same thing happens a second time.

Extracting needs about 3.2 GB of free space on top of the zip itself.

WHAT IS IN THIS ZIP

Setup.exe the graphics setup tool the game needs once per PC
    mfc110.dll \
msvcr110.dll > the three runtime files Setup.exe needs to open
    msvcp110.dll /

Nothing here replaces the game or the launcher. If you were sent an older
copy of this fix that contained ProLaunch.exe, do not use it: it replaces
the launcher with an older build that no longer protects Intel laptops
    from a separate crash.

STILL STUCK

Ask in #support on our Discord, linked from projectragnarokonline.com, and
say which of the file sizes above did not match. That one line saves us
    both a lot of guessing.
